The past year was certainly a year of reflection, rebound and strategic planning for the United Methodist Foundation for the Memphis and Tennessee Conferences. We reflected on the need to conservatively position our investments, while maintaining a socially responsive investment criteria, and maximize our return for our account holders. Going forward, we will expand the area of service of the Foundation by adding two Vice Presidents of Planned Giving and Development. This will allow the Foundation to assist the connectional ministries in both the Memphis and Tennessee Conferences with their fund raising efforts.
The Foundation’s investments managed by CapGroup Advisors ended 2010 with $27,131,175, a 12.2% return. This was a tremendous accomplishment in a very tough investment and economic environment. This could not have been accomplished without the commitment and dedication of CapGroup Advisors, the leadership of our board president, Dr. Vin Walkup, and staff and the guidance of the Foundation board of directors.
The Foundation and Development Fund provide financing for new church facilities, church expansions and church renovations throughout the Memphis and Tennessee Conferences. Over the years, the Foundation and Development Fund have provided over $11,000,000 to conference churches to expand their ministries, change hearts and change lives.
As we move into 2011, I look forward to helping our conference churches wisely invest their funds so they can achieve an above market return on their investments, provide needed capital to support our church growth and expansion and support our connectional ministries with needed resources. If we are all successful, we will truly plant seeds for Christ’s Kingdom and change hearts and lives.
In Christ,
